10 Tips to Help Relax Restless Leg Syndrome

4. Hot/Cold Treatments

When athletes practice and play, their muscles get incredibly tired and need to be treated. They turn to things like ice baths and then hot compresses. This relaxes and shocks the muscles and really allows them to heal. If you’re having a bad flare-up day with your RLS, cold treatments then a hot compress on your legs might just help you sleep through the night by relaxing those muscles. Instead of working, your muscles will go into sort of a healing growth mode and will stay relaxed throughout the night.

5. Stress Relief

At least part of RLS is psychosomatic, insofar as people who suffer from this condition are always expecting it to kick in, for lack of a better term. And so they lie there at night ready to move around and change positions and wiggle their legs. If you do some stress relief exercises, you might be able to just lie there without the interruptions and recognize that the wind blew your hair and it wasn’t some nerve signal that’s compelling you to move your legs. To this end, training the brain with some stress relief exercises might really come in handy.
