Complications: Strangulated Hemorrhoid
One of the less common complications that can occur with hemorrhoids is a strangulated hemorrhoid. When an internal hemorrhoid in the rectum is not treated (also referred to as a prolapsed pile), it can become trapped in the sphincter muscle, leading to a loss of blood supply. This condition, known as strangulated hemorrhoid, is extremely painful.
Complications: Thrombosed Hemorrhoid
In the case of a blood clot forming in a hemorrhoid, it is referred to as a thrombosed hemorrhoid. Although they can cause intense pain, they are generally not considered life-threatening. However, depending on the severity of your condition, seeking medical attention may be necessary. In some instances, the clot may need to be surgically punctured and drained. Fortunately, for most individuals with a hemorrhoid, relief can be found through self-care measures and adopting a healthier lifestyle.
