10 Common Causes of Dizziness

2. Medication

Feeling lightheaded and dizzy is one of prescription drugs’ most noticeable side effects. Any prescription drug that lowers blood sugar, drops blood pressure and causes dehydration is most likely to cause dizziness. These medications include hypertension pills, diuretics, opiates, and any other that dilates the blood vessels. Other drugs that cause lightheadedness and dizziness include over-the-counter antihistamines that treat allergies. If you are experiencing unexplained dizziness and at the same time under medication, it’s advisable to see a doctor who will determine whether the drug is causing the dizziness.

3. Hypoglycemia

Hypoglycemia which is also low blood sugar, causes dizzy spells and a bunch of other symptoms such as sweating, fatigue, and weakness. Low blood sugar causes dizziness once it drops below 70 mg/dl. When your blood sugar is low, your brain will always try to preserve as much energy as possible, making you feel lightheaded and dizzy. However, hypoglycemic people are not the only ones prone to low blood sugars; skipping meals will leave you unbalanced and dizzy. To solve this problem, it’s advisable to take a glass of juice because fast-acting carbs will quickly raise blood sugar.
