10 Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments: Hypoglycemia

Symptoms of Low Blood Glucose: Dizziness, Confusion, and Aggression

When the brain is exposed to low levels of blood glucose, it can lead to significant consequences, especially when the blood glucose level drops to or below 40mg/dL (2.2mmol/L). In some cases, individuals may not even be aware that their behavior has changed, and it is those around them who notice signs of confusion. It is important to note that abnormal actions should not be immediately attributed to drunkenness, as hypoglycemia should be considered when unexpected or inappropriate aggression is observed.

Symptoms: Visual Disturbances

Visual disturbances are common symptoms of low blood glucose levels. When blood glucose levels drop, it affects the visual pathways in the brain, leading to symptoms such as flashing lights and blurred vision. For individuals with long-standing diabetes, these visual disturbances can serve as an early warning sign. Fortunately, once blood glucose levels are regulated, normal sight is typically restored, and there are no long-term complications associated with this symptom.
