Signs of Inflammation in the Colon: Diverticulitis

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI)

Effects of Diverticula on the Bladder

In certain instances, the enlargement of diverticula in the colon can exert pressure on the bladder, resulting in symptoms that resemble those of a urinary tract infection (UTI). These symptoms often consist of frequent urination and a heightened sense of urgency to urinate. Although less common, the colon’s inflammation can also lead to the formation of a tunnel or fistula connecting the bladder and the affected colon. This, in turn, can cause more severe urinary tract symptoms along with additional signs like fever and chills.

Nausea and Vomiting: Common Symptoms of Diverticulitis

One of the typical signs of diverticulitis is experiencing nausea, which can be accompanied by bouts of vomiting, especially in individuals with a sensitive digestive system. The presence of these symptoms can make it challenging for people with diverticulitis to consume both food and medications.
