Clouded Thoughts: Cognitive Impairment in Children with Multiple Sclerosis
One of the warning signs of multiple sclerosis (MS) in children is cognitive impairment, which can be quite challenging to identify. For instance, if you notice that your child frequently forgets to pick up their toys scattered along the hallway, you may initially dismiss it as intentional forgetfulness or mere childish absentmindedness. After all, it is not uncommon for kids to occasionally forget things, considering their minds are constantly racing with a million thoughts per minute. However, if this forgetfulness becomes a consistent pattern, especially in a child who typically has an excellent memory, it could be a significant indication of MS.
Signs of Lethargy in Children
Unexplained fatigue in children may indicate an underlying issue that should not be ignored. While it is normal for kids to feel tired and have lazy days, prolonged lethargy should raise concerns for parents. It could suggest an onset of illness or a need for earlier bedtimes on school nights. However, if the lethargy persists without a clear cause, it is advisable to schedule a doctor’s appointment to investigate further. Although being lethargic alone may not be alarming, when combined with other symptoms, it could potentially be linked to multiple sclerosis (MS).
