Causes of Joint and Muscle Pain
Food poisoning caused by certain organisms, such as salmonella and campylobacter, can lead to the development of reactive arthritis. This condition can cause pain in the joints, especially in the lower extremities, and can result in decreased mobility that persists even after the infection has been resolved. Additionally, individuals who have experienced food poisoning may also experience whole-body aches as a common symptom of the illness.
Signs of Severe Food Poisoning
In exceptional circumstances, food poisoning can lead to more severe symptoms than the ones mentioned earlier. Blurry vision, excessive muscle weakness or paralysis, presence of blood in the stool, and the development of jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes) may indicate a more critical condition. In some cases, if the infection spreads to the bloodstream or affects the lining of the brain, it can pose a life-threatening situation. Additionally, non-infectious food poisoning caused by the consumption of specific mushrooms or fish can result in damage to the nervous system and, in severe instances, even lead to fatality.
