Chickpeas
Chickpeas are part of the Fabaceae family, meaning it’s a legume. Chickpeas are high in fiber, protein, iron, and zinc. A single cup of chickpeas contains 5mg of iron and meets 4% of the daily iron requirements. Chickpeas are a common staple food for vegans and vegetarians. Before you consume chickpeas, soak them overnight. Soaking them decreases an iron inhibitor, phytic acid.
Duck
Duck has more iron than chicken and turkey. It’s also a good source of selenium. A 100-gram serving of cooked duck meat with the skin on has 2.7mg of iron. You might not want to consume dark meat. It’s a misconception that duck is dark meat. It’s considered “white meat” and only appears darker than other poultry.
