What Is the Appearance of Urticaria?
Urticaria, also known as hives, is characterized by the presence of flesh-toned or pale pink skin bumps. These bumps may be round or asymmetrical in shape and can vary in size. Depending on the underlying cause, urticaria can either cover the entire body or be localized to a small area.
One common symptom of urticaria is intense itchiness. When scratched or picked, the surrounding area of the hives may turn a deeper red color. However, the surface of the hives themselves usually remains relatively pale.
What is the Sensation of Urticaria?
When experiencing urticaria, the affected skin appears raised and swollen to the touch. The hives themselves have a smooth texture and typically do not break the skin, unless the individual has excessively scratched the area. Those suffering from urticaria commonly encounter intense itching, and in certain instances, the hives may produce a burning or stinging feeling. Additional symptoms are uncommon.
