Symptoms of Anal Abscesses
Anal abscesses can cause several noticeable symptoms. One of the most prominent signs is the development of a red, tender nodule at the edge of the anus. This nodule is often accompanied by constant pain, which tends to worsen during bowel movements. Individuals with anal abscesses may also experience throbbing and swelling in the anal area, as well as rectal bleeding. In more severe cases, fever, fatigue, constipation, and chills may also occur alongside these symptoms.
Causes of Anal Abscesses
Anal abscesses can be caused by various factors. The most common cause is blocked anal glands, which can lead to the formation of abscesses. Additionally, certain activities such as engaging in anal sex or having sexually transmitted infections can increase the risk of developing an anal abscess. Another possible cause is anal fissures, which occur when there is a tear in the anal canal. In some cases, abscesses may also develop from infected skin near the anus. The underlying infections that contribute to anal abscesses are often caused by bacteria such as e. coli or staphylococcus.
