10 Health Benefits of Tea Tree Oil

Tee Tree Oil and Dental Care

Tea tree oil is known for its healing and disinfecting properties, thanks to the presence of terpenes and cineole. This essential oil has gained popularity as an alternative treatment for various dental issues. Research has shown that tea tree oil can inhibit the adhesion of Porphyromonas gingivalis, a bacteria that destroys the tissues supporting teeth and can lead to tooth loss. Additionally, tea tree oil possesses strong antiseptic properties that may help prevent the growth of periodontopathic bacteria, thereby reducing the risk of periodontitis or gum disease. Individuals with oral thrush can also find relief by using a mouth rinse that contains tea tree oil. In fact, tea tree oil is often included in natural toothpaste, dental floss, and mouthwash by manufacturers.

Tea Tree Oil’s Antifungal Benefits

Investigations have been conducted to explore the antifungal properties of tea tree oil. A study conducted in 2013 revealed that this oil possesses the ability to reduce Trichophyton rubrum, a fungus responsible for nail infections and athlete’s foot. Another earlier study indicated that pure tea tree oil was just as effective as an over-the-counter medication in treating toenail infections. Additionally, researchers experimented by incorporating tea tree oil into a medical cream containing butenafine hydrochloride. This enhanced cream successfully cured toenail fungus in 80 percent of the individuals who participated in the study.
