Benefits of Fiber in Kiwifruit
Fiber plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy diet and promoting optimal digestion. It offers several benefits, including reducing cholesterol levels, eliminating toxins from the digestive system, and preventing diseases such as colon cancer and heart disease. Additionally, fiber aids in the prevention and treatment of constipation. Apart from its impact on the digestive system, fiber intake is also significant for controlling blood sugar levels in diabetic patients. Researchers have found that kiwifruit, in particular, is a rich source of potassium, a mineral essential for overall well-being and the body’s natural processes.
Reduced Respiratory Illnesses
Kiwifruit has been found to provide significant protection against respiratory symptoms associated with asthma, such as wheezing, coughing, and inflammation. A study conducted in Italy and published by Thorax examined 18,000 children, aged 6-7 years, and discovered that those who consumed 5-7 servings of kiwifruit per week experienced a 44% reduction in respiratory symptoms. These symptoms include shortness of breath, runny nose, and severe wheeze. Interestingly, the study also revealed that even children who consumed only one to two servings of kiwi per week still experienced some of these benefits.
