10 Home Remedies for an Ear Infection

4. Garlic

This item has a ton of anti-inflammatory and also antibiotic properties. Just crush up some fresh garlic with a healthy oil (sesame, mustard, avocado, olive) and gently heat it up on the stove. You’re doing this to extract essential oils from the garlic. Once extracted and completely cooled down, add 2 to 3 drops into the infected ear. Do not do this (or any other method) if your eardrum is ruptured.

5. Hot Water Compress

Because an ear infection generally runs its course so quickly and is such a common thing, many people only want relief from the actual discomfort and pain it may be causing. In this instance, a hot water compress can really help. All you really need in some sort of rag or tea towel, and a bottle to hold hot water. They do sell refillable hot water compresses, but you won’t need to buy one if you don’t have one. Just get a bottle, fill it with hot water, wrap it in the towel, and hold it against your ear while you lay down.
