9 Remedies for Vertigo

The Semont Maneuver

The Semont maneuver is a technique used to treat benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). While it may not be as effective as the Epley maneuver, it can still provide relief for some individuals. During this maneuver, the patient is seated and the doctor turns their head so that they are looking at a 45-degree angle towards the opposite side where the vertigo is occurring. The patient is then instructed to lie down on the side where the vertigo is felt and remain in that position for 30 seconds. Afterward, they are moved to the other side of the table, where they gaze at the ground and again stay in this position for 30 seconds.

The Half-Somersault Maneuver: A Simple Technique to Relieve Vertigo

Vertigo can be a debilitating condition that affects your balance and makes you feel disoriented. However, there are exercises that can help alleviate the symptoms. One such exercise is the Half-Somersault Maneuver. Let’s take a closer look at how to perform this technique.

To start, find a comfortable kneeling position and look up at the ceiling for a few seconds. Then, slowly lower your chin to your chest and bring your head between your knees. Allow your forehead or crown to touch the floor. Take your time and breathe deeply.

Once the feeling of vertigo has passed, turn your head towards the affected side and hold this position for 30 seconds. This movement helps to reposition the crystals in your inner ear, which can be the cause of the vertigo.

Next, move onto all fours and straighten your neck so that it aligns with your spine. Hold this position for another 30 seconds. This step is crucial in stabilizing your balance and allowing your body to adjust.

After the 30 seconds, quickly raise your head upright and turn it again towards the shoulder of the affected side. This movement helps to further reposition the crystals and restore equilibrium. Take your time and listen to your body.

Finally, stand up slowly and rest for 15 minutes. This period of rest allows your body to readjust and regain its balance. If needed, you can repeat the exercise a few more times throughout the day.

The Half-Somersault Maneuver is a simple yet effective technique for relieving vertigo. By following these steps and taking your time, you can alleviate the symptoms and regain control of your balance. Remember to consult with a healthcare professional if you have any concerns or if your symptoms persist.
