Self-Monitoring for Retractile Testicles
Retractile testicles require regular self-monitoring to ensure early detection of any complications, including an ascending testicle. Medical professionals strongly encourage individuals to monitor the condition at home between appointments. For infants and young children, parents can monitor the position of the testicles during diaper changes or bath time. As children grow older, they can be taught to check their own testicles and promptly report any changes in position to their parents.
What is an Ascending Testicle?
An ascending testicle, although rare, occurs when a retractile testicle becomes stuck inside the groin. This condition is typically caused by a short spermatic cord, which contains blood vessels, nerves, and is responsible for carrying semen between the testicle and the penis. Scar tissue can also contribute to the development of an ascending testicle, especially after undergoing hernia repair surgery.
