Signs and Symptoms of Gout

Patterns of Gout: Upsurges and Remissions

Gout is commonly characterized by a cycle of upsurges and remissions. Individuals often experience a complete disappearance of symptoms after the initial attack. However, assuming that this was merely a one-time occurrence can be misleading. Unless prompt and effective treatment is administered, gout is likely to resurface within a few years. As time passes, the majority of patients will endure frequent recurring episodes, with the prevalence increasing significantly after a decade.

Signs of Skin Manifestations in Gout

Individuals with gout may observe red and shiny patches on their skin. In cases where the condition is left untreated for an extended period, uric acid crystals can penetrate the skin, resulting in distinctive marks that resemble crab eyes. These skin deformations are medically referred to as tophi, and the severe form of this condition is known as Chronic Tophaceous Gout and Tophi.
