Effects of Botulism: Muscle Paralysis
Botulism, a potentially life-threatening disease, can progressively lead to muscle paralysis. As the disease advances, additional muscles in the body start losing their functionality. This can result in a gradual loss of mobility in the limbs. In more severe cases, botulism can weaken the muscles responsible for respiration, leading to breathing difficulties. In rare instances, respiratory failure may occur. The weakening of these vital muscles can cause a rise in carbon dioxide levels in the bloodstream, potentially leading to a coma. In the most severe cases, botulism can be fatal.
