10 Signs of Thyroid Cancer

Infectious Triggers

Thyroid cancer may be associated with certain viruses, such as hepatitis C and Epstein-Barr. Although scientists have discovered this connection, further research is necessary to confirm these infections as definite triggers. It appears that the risk of developing cancer in relation to these infections is higher in children compared to adults. In fact, thyroid cancer is one of the most prevalent types of cancer among children. Therefore, parents whose children have contracted these viruses should be vigilant and familiarize themselves with thyroid symptoms.

Hyperthyroidism and its Association with Thyroid Cancer

Hyperthyroidism, commonly caused by Graves’ disease, has been found to have a potential link with an increased risk of developing thyroid cancer. Individuals diagnosed with Graves’ disease are particularly susceptible to thyroid cancer. The excessive production of thyroid hormones in Graves’ disease often leads to symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, sleep disturbances, and a rapid heart rate. Due to this heightened risk, it is recommended that individuals with hyperthyroidism or Graves’ disease undergo more frequent cancer screenings compared to those without these conditions.
