Fatigue or Malaise
Experiencing flu-like symptoms and a general sense of unwellness is commonly reported by many women a few days prior to being diagnosed with HELLP syndrome. Along with these symptoms, women may also feel excessively tired and fatigued. If you are pregnant and sense that something is not right, it is important to consult your doctor for a blood test and urine sample to rule out HELLP syndrome.
High Blood Pressure: A Risk Factor for HELLP Syndrome and Preeclampsia
Originally known as edema-proteinuria-hypertension gestosis type B, HELLP syndrome is a serious medical condition that was officially named in 1982. Hypertension, commonly referred to as high blood pressure, is a key diagnostic requirement for HELLP syndrome. Moreover, high blood pressure is also a defining characteristic of preeclampsia, another dangerous condition during pregnancy. The presence of high blood pressure poses significant risks to both the baby and the mother, including potential kidney, liver, and brain damage. In severe cases, high blood pressure can even lead to seizures and fatal outcomes for both the baby and the mother.
