When it comes to acute bronchitis, a persistent cough is often the telltale sign. This cough can either be productive or non-productive, meaning it may or may not produce mucus. One thing is for certain, though – this cough has a tendency to linger long after the infection has subsided, often taking several weeks to fully clear.
Signs of Mild Fever and Chills
While uncommon, acute bronchitis may result in a mild fever. Typically, the body temperature does not surpass 100 degrees F. However, in severe cases, it is possible for temperatures to rise to 102 degrees. Medical professionals may be concerned that fevers indicate a more serious underlying ailment, such as pneumonia. Typically, fevers associated with acute bronchitis subside within a few days, although some may persist for up to five days. It is not uncommon for chills to accompany a fever during this time.
