Impairments in Vision Caused by Meningiomas
Meningiomas have the potential to cause various vision-related complications. When these tumors develop in one of the sphenoid wings, individuals may gradually experience a decline in eyesight or even develop double vision. Additionally, if a tumor forms in the suprasellar region of the brain, it can exert pressure on the optic nerve, leading to impaired visual abilities. In rare instances, intraorbital tumors can grow around the eye sockets, creating pressure and causing the eyes to bulge.
Impaired Sense of Smell due to Meningiomas
Meningiomas, a type of brain tumor, can sometimes exert pressure on the nerves that control the sense of smell. As a result, individuals may experience a gradual loss of their olfactory sense. This symptom often goes unnoticed until the sense of smell becomes significantly weakened. However, by receiving appropriate treatment and removing the tumor, there is a high likelihood of fully restoring the ability to smell.
