10 Symptoms of Chikungunya

Headaches

In the initial stage of this disease, severe headaches can occur along with joint pain and fever. Similar to other symptoms, these headaches typically start a few days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. The duration between the mosquito bite and the onset of headaches can range from three days to a week. While in most cases, the headaches subside within a couple of days, they can persist for up to a week in more severe instances.

Rashes and Skin Issues

When a person is in the initial stage of Chikungunya, they may experience the emergence of rashes on their limbs and other parts of the body. These rashes usually appear as raised red bumps on the skin. Along with the rash, individuals may also encounter peeling skin and a condition called hyperpigmentation, which refers to the darkening of certain areas of the skin. Furthermore, they might develop mouth ulcers as a result of the disease. In most cases of Chikungunya, these skin problems tend to resolve on their own within two to three weeks, sometimes even earlier, without requiring any specific treatment.
