Fever
Food poisoning can cause our bodies to go into infection-fighting mode. In addition to attempting to eliminate the harmful substance through vomiting or diarrhea, the body may also raise its internal temperature to help kill bacteria. During this phase of the illness, it is important to rest and stay hydrated. Applying cold compresses can help cool the body down. Although this symptom should eventually subside, it is advisable to monitor body temperature with a thermometer to determine if medical attention is necessary in the event of a high fever.
Sweating and Chills
Experiencing sweating and chills is a common reaction to food poisoning and the accompanying fever. This is the body’s natural response to fight off the infection and promote healing. The increase in internal temperature aids in eliminating the harmful bacteria, although it can lead to discomfort and fluctuating body heat. Just like any other instance of sweating, it is crucial to rehydrate and replenish lost fluids to prevent dehydration.
