Understanding Jaundice
Jaundice is a common symptom that occurs when there is an accumulation of bile salts in the bloodstream. In cases where cancer obstructs the common bile duct, the normal flow of bile into the intestines is hindered. Consequently, the excess bile salts start to accumulate in various body tissues and the bloodstream. It is worth noting that more than half of individuals diagnosed with this form of cancer experience jaundice. The onset of jaundice is characterized by a yellowish discoloration of the skin and the whites of the eyes, accompanied by itching. Additionally, urine may darken, while stool may appear much lighter than usual.
Enlargement of the Gallbladder: A Distressing Symptom of Gallbladder Cancer
One of the most alarming and uncomfortable symptoms of gallbladder cancer is the enlargement of the gallbladder. When the cancer obstructs the bile duct, the gallbladder becomes filled with bile, causing it to swell and increase in size. In some cases, a doctor may be able to feel the enlargement during a physical examination, particularly when it has become severe. However, an ultrasound scan is often more effective in detecting the enlargement. Regular checkups are crucial in identifying any diseases or illnesses early on, enabling prompt treatment.
