10 Symptoms of Hepatitis

Diarrhea: A Common Symptom of Hepatitis

Diarrhea is a common symptom that can be associated with various conditions, including hepatitis. When the body is fighting off a viral infection like hepatitis, it often triggers diarrhea as a way to eliminate waste and toxins. However, it is important to note that diarrhea can also be caused by other factors, making it crucial for doctors to conduct multiple tests and thoroughly examine a patient’s medical history in order to accurately diagnose the underlying issue.

Jaundice: Yellowing of the Skin and Eyes

Jaundice, characterized by the yellowing of the skin and eyes, is a common occurrence in individuals with hepatitis, affecting around 20% of patients. While newborn babies may experience mild jaundice in the first few weeks of life, it is typically not a cause for concern. However, in adults, jaundice can be indicative of more serious underlying conditions, such as liver cirrhosis or scarring. The development of cirrhosis is often a consequence of insufficient or delayed treatment for hepatitis, allowing the condition to progress.
