10 Symptoms of Kidney Cysts

How Kidney Cysts Can Impact Sleep Patterns

Although sleeplessness is not typically considered a primary symptom of kidney cysts, these cysts can still have an indirect effect on a person’s ability to sleep. Kidney problems, such as the presence of cysts, can lead to a condition known as nocturia, which involves frequent urination during the night. This constant need to use the bathroom disrupts sleep patterns, resulting in too little or restless sleep.

Insufficient or disturbed sleep can have a significant impact on an individual’s quality of life. The lack of restorative sleep often leads to fatigue and a lack of focus throughout the day. Nocturia itself is generally a sign of a urinary tract infection (UTI) or another type of infection, and the presence of a kidney cyst is one possible cause of this disruptive condition.

Causes of Abdominal Distension

Abdominal distension, characterized by swelling of the abdomen, can be attributed to various factors. One common cause is bloating, which is often a result of food intolerance. In addition, individuals suffering from polycystic kidney disease (PKD) may also experience abdominal swelling. This condition occurs when the kidneys become enlarged due to the presence of cysts that obstruct the normal flow of urine. The pressure exerted by these enlarged kidneys can also lead to abdominal pain.
