10 Symptoms of Liver Cirrhosis

4. Hypogonadism

Hypogonadism is a complicated word to explain the lack of a sex drive and decreased genital function. People with cirrhosis, especially men, not only deal with a lower sex drive but also shrunken testicles and a sex organ that no longer performs reliably. A lot of this has to do with lower testosterone levels due to the hormone cortisol building up and sapping up your T levels. In women, this generally just manifests in a loss in libido and doesn’t take on any physical characteristics like it will in men.

5. Gynecomastia

This is the technical term for male breasts that are abnormally large. Men have niipples just like women, though they’re not genetically coded to have any actual breast tissue (fatty) besides muscle (pectoral). Due to hormonal imbalances that can be caused by cirrhosis, fat deposits can start accumulating in the breasts and men can end up with large breasts. This is yet another side effect of a man’s testosterone levels dropping due to a malfunctioning liver.
