Irritability and Sensitivity
When inflammation occurs, certain chemical substances such as bradykinin are released. Bradykinin plays a role in causing the walls of blood vessels to expand, resulting in wider spaces between the endothelial cells. As a result, fluid from the blood seeps into the surrounding tissues. Bradykinin is also responsible for the sensation of pain in the affected area. Pain serves as an important signal, alerting the body to the presence of inflammation. In addition to pain, the affected area may also become sensitive to touch, a condition known as tenderness. This sensitivity can be particularly helpful in identifying inflammation in young children who are unable to verbally communicate their pain.
Loss of appetite: A Common Symptom of Osteomyelitis
Individuals suffering from osteomyelitis often experience a significant loss of appetite, resulting in a decreased intake of food compared to their usual consumption patterns. This lack of desire to eat is accompanied by feelings of fatigue, exhaustion, and weakness. Additionally, some individuals may even experience sensations of unease and discomfort while consuming food. For others, these symptoms manifest as intense nausea, often accompanied by an urge to vomit. It is important to note that while nausea is a common symptom associated with osteomyelitis, it can also be caused by various other factors.
