Closed to Reason: The Struggle of Postpartum Depression
When a woman is gripped by the debilitating effects of postpartum depression, the instinctive response from those around her is to try and uplift her spirits. However, logic and reason often fail to penetrate the fog of despair that shrouds her mind. Despite the sincere intentions of family and friends, their attempts to reassure her can be met with skepticism and even exacerbate her feelings of isolation.
Challenges in Falling Asleep
Experiencing difficulties in falling asleep is a common expectation for new mothers. The demands of caring for a newborn, such as regular feedings, regardless of whether they are breast or bottle-fed, often disrupt a mother’s sleep. This constant interruption takes a toll on both her physical and emotional well-being. Moreover, if she develops postpartum depression, she may find herself oversleeping or unable to take advantage of the baby’s naps to catch up on her own sleep. Unfortunately, the lack of adequate rest only serves to exacerbate her mental health issues.
