10 Symptoms of Rubella

Identifying Rubella: Swollen Lymph Nodes

When it comes to diagnosing Rubella, it can be tricky to distinguish its rash from similar viral infections and diseases in children. However, one distinctive sign that indicates Rubella is swollen lymph nodes. Specifically, the lymph glands or nodes located behind the ears and those at the back of the neck around the base of the skull become enlarged. These swollen glands are tender and sore to the touch. Additionally, other glands throughout the body may also experience swelling as a result of the Rubella virus. Fortunately, once the body recovers from the virus, these swollen glands will return to their normal state.

A Runny Nose

One of the symptoms of Rubella, along with a mild fever, is a runny nose. This is similar to the symptoms of a common cold, which is why many people are unaware they have Rubella until the rash appears. Like a cold or the flu, a stuffy or runny nose is often accompanied by a fever, headache, and conjunctivitis. It can be managed in the same way as a common cold, but if you are uncertain, it is always advisable to consult a doctor. Since there is no specific treatment for Rubella, the focus is on alleviating the symptoms rather than targeting the virus directly.
