10 Symptoms of Strep Throat

4. Difficulty Swallowing

Before your throat gets red and fully infected with the strep virus, what you’ll find is that it starts to swell a little bit. It will initially do this without pain. It isn’t until that swollen throat becomes irritated that the pain really starts, and especially when it blisters over. At first, however, this infection will just present difficulty swallowing. It will be tough to swallow liquids, but especially foods. No matter if it’s difficult to swallow, you have to keep feeding the body so that it’s strong enough to fight infection.

5. Sore Throat

Of course, a sore throat is the number one symptom of strep throat, once the infection actually takes hold and settles in all the way. This will include difficulty swallowing, perhaps a mild to moderate cough, and general discomfort in the throat. You can look down your own throat, or down your child’s throat, and you should be able to see blisters if it is in fact the strep bacterial infection. There’s really no mistaking what this is.
