10 Symptoms of Strep Throat

8. Trouble Breathing

With strep throat, you may have trouble breathing. This isn’t necessarily because the throat is red and inflamed and thus it’s more laborious for air to get into your lungs. Rather, it’s because strep can often lead to other inflammatory ailments like rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, and more. These conditions make it a lot more difficult to breathe, so make sure that you’re staying on top of your symptoms so that you can treat strep before it potentially morphs into something else.

9. Painful, Dry Cough

A cough with strep isn’t like the normal cold or flu. There’s not necessarily a lot of mucus associated with strep, at least not when it first strikes you. With a cold or flu, the coughing is usually a response to break up mucus. With strep, it’s the dryness and the infected nature of the throat that makes coughing involuntary. Be very aware that it’s coughing like this that easily spreads the infection around.
