Understanding Respiratory Failure
Respiratory failure can occur as a result of toxins released by a staph or strep infection that find their way to the lungs. This can lead to the development of a condition known as acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Individuals who experience TSS-related ARDS often suffer from symptoms such as shortness of breath, wheezing, and a discoloration of the skin, which may appear mottled or blue due to a lack of oxygen.
Furthermore, the decrease in oxygen levels and the release of proteins by damaged lung cells can trigger inflammation in other vital organs, including the brain and heart.
Understanding the Connection Between Low Blood Pressure and Shock
Low blood pressure, also known as hypotension, and shock are two of the most severe and urgent symptoms associated with toxic shock syndrome. This condition can cause a sudden and significant decrease in blood pressure, which in turn deprives cells and organs of vital oxygen and nutrients. Shock is characterized by various indicators, including a rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, a decrease in body temperature, and cold extremities. If left untreated, shock can result in serious organ damage or even death.
