Pancreatitis is a condition characterized by the inflammation of the pancreas. It occurs when the digestive enzymes within the pancreas become activated prematurely, before they are released into the small intestine. Although relatively rare, individuals with Wilson’s disease, a genetic disorder that leads to copper buildup in various organs, may experience pancreatitis as a result of copper deposits in the pancreas.
