Challenges with Memory and Focus
Difficulties with memory and concentration are common among parents who have postpartum depression (PPD). These individuals often find themselves neglecting their responsibilities as they become absorbed in their own thoughts and concerns, leading to increased anxiety. They may also struggle to remember where they have put things or whether they have attended to the needs of their baby.
Changes in Sleep Cycle
One of the symptoms commonly observed in individuals with Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a disturbance in their sleep cycle. People with PPD often experience difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep, resulting in bouts of insomnia. Conversely, some may find themselves sleeping for longer periods than they are accustomed to. Additionally, they may feel excessively tired and fatigued at unusual times, particularly when they are expected to be alert and focused. It is important to note that the arrival of a newborn alone can disrupt any parent’s sleep cycle. However, if these changes are particularly severe, difficult to manage, or persist for more than two weeks after the birth of the baby, they could indicate the presence of postpartum depression.
