Leverage Rewards for Successful Potty Training
Offering rewards can be a powerful motivator when it comes to potty training your child. Whether it’s a tasty chocolate chip or colorful M&M, a few minutes of cherished iPad time, a coin for their piggy bank, or a small prize, the prospect of a reward can truly make a difference. Not only will this incentivize your child to use the potty, but it will also help create a positive connection with the whole potty training experience, leading to a smoother journey and minimizing setbacks.
Encourage your child to remember to use the toilet
During the initial stages of potty training, it’s common for children to get so engrossed in their activities that they forget to go to the toilet. This can often result in accidents and setbacks. To avoid this, it’s important to remind and prompt your child to use the toilet regularly.
One effective way to do this is by setting a timer for every 15 minutes and asking your child if they need to go to the bathroom. Even if they say no, it’s still a good idea to take their hand and lead them to the toilet every half hour. Consistency is key during this phase.
When your child successfully uses the toilet, make sure to praise and reward them. This positive reinforcement will motivate them to continue using the toilet on their own. As time goes by and they become more comfortable with the process, you can gradually increase the time between reminders until they remember to go on their own.
