Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP)
If you’re finding that CPAP isn’t providing the relief you need, there are alternative options available. One such option is C-Flex with CPAP, which can offer some pressure relief. However, if you require more significant pressure relief, BiPAP may be the better choice. Unlike C-Flex’s additional three centimeters of relief, BiPAP starts at a four centimeter level. This makes it particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with high-pressure issues or low oxygen levels. BiPAP provides higher pressure during inhalation and lower pressure during exhalation. If you have a cardiopulmonary disorder such as congestive heart failure, lung disorders, or certain neuromuscular disorders, BiPAP may be more advantageous for you compared to CPAP, even when combined with C-Flex.
Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP)
Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP) is an alternative treatment for sleep apnea that does not involve the use of a breathing mask. Instead, small devices are placed over each nostril before going to sleep. These devices are designed for one-time use. The EPAP treatment works by allowing patients to inhale freely, while during exhalation, the air passes through tiny holes in the device. This process increases pressure and keeps the airway open.
If you suffer from mild obstructive sleep apnea, EPAP can be an effective treatment option. Not only does it help reduce snoring, but it can also alleviate daytime drowsiness. However, it is important to note that EPAP is not suitable for everyone. It is recommended to consult with your doctor about other treatment alternatives before considering EPAP.
