10 Treatments of Croup

Inhaling Cool Mist for Easy Breathing

When it comes to helping your child breathe easier, inhaling cool mist can be highly beneficial. Similar to the steam from a bathroom shower, a cool mist humidifier or vaporizer can provide relief. Direct your child to sit near the stream of mist, allowing approximately ten minutes for the airway to clear. For continued relief, place the cool mist machine in your child’s bedroom overnight. It’s important to note that while a hot mist vaporizer can also be used, caution should be exercised to prevent burning a child by sitting too close to the steam.

Embrace the Fresh Evening Air

Rather than relying on artificial methods like vaporized air or humidifiers, exposing your child to the actual night air can have its advantages. Take advantage of the weather conditions and dress your child warmly for a soothing stroller ride or a leisurely walk. Spending around 10 to 20 minutes in the refreshing evening air can significantly alleviate symptoms of croup. If you prefer, opt for a slow car ride with the windows rolled down. This simple act alone has the potential to alleviate symptoms while you drive your child to the doctor’s office or the emergency room.
