Speeds Recovery
Combatting inflammation and oxidative stress is crucial for a speedy recovery following an injury. Whether it’s a strenuous workout or a severe muscle injury, pomegranate juice has shown promising results in alleviating these conditions.
A study conducted on nine elite weightlifters revealed that pomegranate juice had the ability to delay oxidative stress post-training. The findings demonstrated that pomegranate juice enhanced the body’s antioxidant response and accelerated recovery when participants were tested three minutes and 48 hours after consuming pomegranate supplementation before a training session.
For individuals who often experience delayed training sessions due to muscle soreness, incorporating pomegranate juice into their routine may aid in quicker recovery, enabling them to train more frequently and for extended periods.
Improves Memory
Recent research suggests that consuming pomegranate can have a positive impact on memory. A study published in the Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine found that the powerful antioxidants present in pomegranate can enhance memory after surgery. Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is a common issue experienced by patients who undergo surgery with general anesthesia. However, the study revealed that taking pomegranate supplements can significantly improve cognitive functions, particularly memory, in these patients.
Moreover, another study conducted on adults with mild memory complaints demonstrated the memory-boosting effects of pomegranate. The study involved 32 participants, and those who consumed pomegranate juice for four weeks showed notable improvements in memory tests and fMRI scans. This indicates that pomegranate juice not only shields against memory problems but can also effectively prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease, thanks to its potent antioxidant properties.
