Avena: A Nutritious Breakfast Option
There is a reason why breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Starting your morning with a bowl of hot oatmeal incorporates several healthy elements into your diet right at the beginning of the day. Whole grains are an ideal source of soluble fiber, and oatmeal tops the list. Soluble fiber forms a gel-like substance that prevents cholesterol from being absorbed into the bloodstream. Aim to consume between five and ten grams of soluble fiber every day – at least one and a quarter cups of oatmeal – to combat LDL cholesterol. By adding toppings like diced apples, you can further increase the fiber content of your first meal.
Pinto Beans
Pinto beans are also packed with soluble fiber. Simply adding half a cup of pinto beans to your daily diet can slow down cholesterol absorption. Chili, tacos, and other traditional Mexican dishes taste delicious with the healthy addition of pinto beans. If using canned beans instead of fresh ones, be sure to rinse them well to remove excess sodium.
