Symptoms of Staph Infection

Signs of Cellulitis: Redness, Swelling, and Warm Skin

When certain areas of the body, especially the legs, become inflamed, red, tender, and warm, it may be a sign that staph infection is progressing into cellulitis. Cellulitis is a severe infection where bacteria attack the deeper layers of the skin. In some instances, it can even lead to the formation of ulcers or dimpling of the skin. Besides these visible symptoms, individuals may also experience fever, chills, malaise, and nausea. It is crucial to seek prompt treatment for cellulitis, as failure to do so may result in the infection spreading to the lymph nodes or entering the bloodstream.

Burn-Like Marks

A staph infection can occasionally lead to the development of staphylococcal scalded skin syndrome (SSSS), resulting in the appearance of burn-like marks. In this severe condition, blisters form on the skin, and when they rupture, the surrounding skin peels off, leaving behind raw and red marks resembling burns. This particular symptom is commonly observed in infants and young children, typically under the age of 5, and should be considered as an urgent medical concern.
