Severe Fever Accompanied by Various Symptoms
On rare occasions, staph bacteria can result in a condition known as toxic shock syndrome (TSS). This happens when specific strains of the bacteria release harmful toxins into the bloodstream, giving rise to a range of significant symptoms, including a high fever, feelings of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, confusion, and muscle discomfort. It is crucial to note that toxic shock syndrome is a life-threatening condition that requires immediate medical intervention.
Joint Problems
Joint problems can arise as a result of staph infections, leading to a condition known as septic arthritis. While the knees are the most commonly affected, septic arthritis can also target joints such as the hip, shoulder, spine, ankle, or elbow. Symptoms of septic arthritis include pain, swelling, and an increase in body temperature. If left untreated, septic arthritis can cause irreversible damage to the bones and, in severe cases, may even necessitate amputation. Individuals with pre-existing joint issues, a history of joint trauma, or a compromised immune system are at a higher risk of developing septic arthritis.
