Understanding Chronic Glomerulonephritis
Chronic glomerulonephritis is a condition that typically develops from the same infections that cause acute glomerulonephritis. However, there are instances where acute glomerulonephritis fails to resolve and progresses into a long-term issue. Additionally, this form of glomerulonephritis can also be inherited, although it is often classified as idiopathic, meaning that doctors are unable to identify its specific cause.
Diagnosis of Glomerulonephritis
When diagnosing glomerulonephritis, doctors rely on evaluating the symptoms that have manifested in the patient. If glomerulonephritis is suspected, a series of tests are conducted, including blood counts, renal function tests, and serum electrolyte analysis. Urine tests may reveal the presence of protein or clumps of red or white blood cells known as casts. In some cases, a renal biopsy may be necessary to accurately assess the level of glomerular involvement and damage.
