Symptoms of Aspergillosis
Aspergillosis can present with different symptoms depending on the type. Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis and allergic aspergillosis sinusitis may initially manifest as common allergies or sinus infections. These symptoms typically include coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. In the case of aspergilloma, similar symptoms may be present, but there is also a possibility of coughing up blood. Chronic aspergillosis is often accompanied by weight loss, fatigue, and the aforementioned symptoms. In cases of invasive aspergillosis, all the symptoms mentioned above are present, in addition to fever.
Diagnosing Aspergillosis
Diagnosing aspergillosis involves a series of tests conducted by medical professionals. These tests include lab and blood tests, as well as chest x-rays. Additionally, CT scans are commonly used to assess the condition of the lungs and identify any cavities. In some cases, the physician may also obtain fluid samples from the respiratory system or perform tissue biopsies of the lungs to further investigate the presence of aspergillosis.
