All About the Arm Muscles

Deep Compartment of the Posterior Compartment in the Forearm

The deep compartment of the posterior compartment in the forearm consists of muscles that perform various functions. One of these muscles is the supinator, which is responsible for rotating the forearm. Another muscle, called the extensor indices, plays a crucial role in extending the forefinger. Additionally, there are other muscles in this compartment that are involved in the movement of the thumb. The abductor pollicis longus acts as an abductor, while the extensor pollicis brevis and the extensor pollicis longus function as extensors.

How Muscles and Bones are Connected

The connection between muscles and bones is facilitated by tendons, which are strong, fibrous tissues capable of withstanding significant tension. In the case of the arm, the humerus, radius, and ulna bones are linked to the muscles through tendons. The primary function of tendons is to transmit the forces generated by the muscles. Numerous tendons exist to connect the bones and muscles of the arm. For instance, the biceps muscle is connected to both the shoulder and the elbow through three tendons.
