Prevalence of Anembryonic Pregnancy
Anembryonic pregnancy, also known as a blighted ovum, is a relatively common occurrence, especially in the early stages of pregnancy before 13 weeks gestation. Studies suggest that approximately 15 to 20 percent of all pregnancies result in miscarriage, with about half of these cases being attributed to a blighted ovum.
Future Pregnancies
Many women who have had a blighted ovum or anembryonic pregnancy go on to have successful pregnancies in the future. This is encouraging news, especially when the cause of the blighted ovum is unknown. However, it is important for women who have experienced multiple miscarriages to consult with their doctor in order to identify any potential underlying causes.
