There are various common causes of muscle spasms, many of which are not serious. Individuals involved in rigorous exercise and physical activity, especially athletes, are more susceptible to leg and toe cramps. Cramps are commonly experienced in high-temperature environments due to dehydration and electrolyte loss. Additionally, wearing excessively tight shoes or maintaining a specific body position, like standing on tiptoes, can result in strain, reduced blood flow, and muscle cramps.


Possible Causes: Arteriosclerosis

Toe and leg spasms can become increasingly severe and disabling with frequent occurrences. Arteriosclerosis, also known as atherosclerosis, is a potential underlying cause of these painful cramps. Arteriosclerosis is characterized by the accumulation of fats, cholesterol, and other substances in the walls of the arteries, leading to the narrowing of blood vessels and reduced flow of nutrient-rich blood to the extremities. This condition often manifests as cramp-like pains in the legs and feet during physical exercise, which typically subside upon cessation of the activity.
