Bumps on the Tongue: Transient Lingual Papillitis

The Generalized Variant of Transient Lingual Papillitis

In the case of the generalized variant of transient lingual papillitis, multiple papillae are affected. This particular variant typically targets children who are around 3.5 years old and may even spread to other members of the family. Similar to the localized form, the color of the affected area can range from red, yellow, white, to normal. Additionally, individuals with this variant may experience moderate pain and heightened sensitivity to hot and cold foods.

Papulokeratotic Variant: A Generalized Tongue Condition

The papulokeratotic variant is one of the three types of tongue conditions. Unlike the other variants, this type covers a larger area of the tongue, making it more generalized. In this variant, the swollen papillae on the tongue appear white or whitish-yellow in color. Although this condition is largely painless, it tends to last for a longer duration compared to the other variants.
