Campylobacter Infection: Symptoms and Treatments

Treatment: Opt for Small Meals

When dealing with the issue of vomiting, it may be difficult for you to keep food down. However, if you happen to be afflicted with campylobacter, opting for frequent small meals instead of three large ones can provide relief. By taking tiny bites and sips, you can avoid overburdening your stomach with substantial meals. It is advisable to consume salty foods or meals that are rich in potassium.

Treatment: Antibiotics

In the case of severe Campylobacter infection or individuals with a high risk of developing complications, such as those with a weakened immune system due to illness or medications, antibiotic treatment is necessary. Levofloxacin is often the initial prescribed medication for Campylobacter infection. If this does not prove effective, other alternatives like azithromycin or ciprofloxacin may be considered. However, it is important to note that antibiotic treatment is typically required only in rare instances when campylobacteriosis does not improve within two to 10 days.
