Causes of MRSA

How is MRSA Typically Contracted?

Contracting MRSA commonly occurs when individuals come into contact with an infected wound or objects that have been in contact with such wounds. This form of MRSA is referred to as community-associated MRSA. Staph bacteria, including MRSA, typically do not cause issues until they find a route to enter the body, usually through a cut. Once inside, these bacteria can lead to severe infections. Furthermore, individuals with weakened immune systems are at a higher risk of developing MRSA.

Where is MRSA Most Likely to be Contracted?

MRSA, or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, can be contracted in various settings where there is a high concentration of people or direct skin contact. These include medical centers, daycares, hospitals, schools, locker rooms, sports facilities, nursing homes, prisons, and military barracks. Certain groups of individuals, such as athletes, surgery patients, children, elderly individuals, prison inmates, and soldiers, are particularly susceptible to contracting MRSA.
